I am the new PIO for my volunteer department. The members want to set up a website so the public has access to information about us. I am currently looking for a easy-to-use, low-cost website host. What host do you use? Would you recomend them? Are there any that I should shy away from? Thanks for your ideas!

You could use FreeHostia which as the name implies starts out as low as Free http://www.freehostia.com/index2.html but if I were in your shoes i'd ask around the community, find the local computer geek/repair shops. They may be able to donate some time and a hosting plan to help you get started.
The companies that I am currently looking into are:
I looked into godaddy.com, but I did not like what I saw in comparision with the others.
The nice thing about Freehostia is you get free hosting with no ads, Webs.com's free hosting puts ads on your space that you have no control over. I still think your best bet is to contact the local resources and ask for some volunteer time/hosting. They can do all the setup/configuration/design (the hard stuff) then you just go ina nd do the updates.
