It is difficult to describe without a picture, but you should not have to cut any tubing. Basically we will put a "T" between the mask and the tubing, then put an elbow off the "T" and connect a nebulizer to that. Hook up supplemental O2 to the bottom of the neb and **viola** you can nebulize while using CPAP. However, it is a rarity that we have to do this, most times we are using CPAP (and we use it a lot) it is for the pulmonary edema, not a combo of both. Also, remember that wheezing with pulmonary edema doesn't necessarily mean thept is having a COPD/asthma issue, but they can be so full with fluids that wheezing can be heard.

 

Also, remember if there is a need for CPAP because of a pulmonary edema issue, try and get nitro on board before putting on the mask.

thanks crabbe good advice, and I get what you are saying. I think i Figured it out. For ours we do have to cut to insert the T, but now I get that we have to hook the supplemental 02 to the bottom of the neb and viola. If I ever have to use this procedure now i'll know how.

There are CPAP devices designed with inserts to vary the CPAP pressure as well as to add in the T-piece for nebulized meds.

 

The O2-RESQ system is one of those type systems.  The photo shows a yellow "7.5" pressure insert on the right side of the mask.  It also shows the blue t-connector for the nebulizer.
