Hello everyone. I am looking for some information and was hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. I have tried searching this site and others but I am not coming across the information I am looking for.

I am looking for information on becoming a volunteer firefighter in Wisconsin while I am going to school to get my fire science degree. Can someone tell me what the requirements are for joining? Is it fully volunteer or do they pay per call? What kind of schedules do volunteer departments run?

Any info at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

I think your best bet would be to call the local volunteer fire department you are interested in joining and asking them all the details. I can't speak for how things are in the States, where I am from Canada, but I'm sure it varies from state to state on requirements and how the department schedules are.
Devon, look up the town info that the college you are attending is in, they should be able to at least give you a phone number for the fire department or contact info , and then the department will tell you what is involved in becoming a member , good luck and stay safe
Our FD requires very little. Every single person can help in some way on a scene. We only get five bucks per call. More than some though. Every FD is different. Like Firefighter30 says. Some of our local FDs have a pretty brutal physicals, but, they get a huge number of calls so they look for people in top shape. Also, they have a stack of applications a mile high so they can afford to be picky. Like Firefighter30 I'm Canadian too. Go Canucks Go! LOL
