So nobody from ok seems to talk much so i guess ill start a discussion. Im curious to here how many runs and what type of runs you guys from other towns run on. Here in chouteau we run on about 500 calls a year, about half are medical and car wrecks the other half are fires.
We are in a town of about 400. In '06 we made 113 calls, the most we have ever had. So far this year we are at 42. I would say we have averaged about 75 calls a year over the last five years. Of those probably about 60% medical (closest ambulance is a minimum of 20 min. out), 35% wildland, and the remaining 5% could be divided among everyting else. We rely ALOT on mutual aid in our county. There are 15 volunteer departments and one paid and we work very close with each other. It amazes onlookers to see four or five departments roll up on a 10 acre grass fire. Yea sometimes it's overkill but last year our county had 20,000 acres burnt, but did not loose a single occupied structure and only 1 unoccupied house (and it took them 3 times to get it burnt down, yea it was arson)
sounds like you guys got your stuff squared away, and better to have more than enough than not enough. We do the same thing, we run out trucks somtimes we know we really dont need just incase we need them. We have had some arson fires here too, we had a string of houses on one block that somone tried to burn, might have worked had they not been a block from the station, lol.
I woulda guessed a larger percentage (not by much) on the medical calls, but you're probably right. Comparatively, we do seem to run a large amount for such a small town!
Here in Tecumseh, OK we run around 700 to 750 calls a year we are at 570 right now. 80% of our calls are medical and car wrecks and the other 20% are fires.
