What training must Tn volunteer fire depts have.
I am trying to find out what Trainings must Tn volunteer fire depts have. Such as stuff like the Vanessa K trainings, 60 hour classes, saftey, scba and etc. There is so many laws that keep changing about what we are required to have. I'd like to find a list of all that are required. That way i can let our dept know and get us the proper training.

Best way to get a list would probably contact your state fire academy they will have the most up today list and also can probably send you updated lists as they come out

I had this article printed off a while ago, it has some good information about minimum standards for firefighters. NFPA and OSHA dictate the standards but it does also depend on the State, I would agree with Sparky3317 about asking your local Fire Academy or Trainig Institution, but also hit up NFPA, OSHA and your States Volunteer Firefighters Organisation.

Our state training Academy from what i know is Tennessee Fire and Codes Academy. I done my fire fighter class there.
I got voted in as Safety and Training Officer at my dept because i am always telling people to suit up and be safe. Now im stuck with trying to find out who needs what training, and how to get it done. I have talked to our Chief and assistent chief about all this, but its like i keep getting blown off, and its like noone on our dept is taking thing serious but me. So i guess i got to do things on my own. I may make them mad by going over there heads, but i dont care, i wont our guys to have all the training they can get, and to be safe as possible. Thats my priority.

Vanessa K Free is required yearly for All drivers. 16 hr class(Introduction to fire and emergency services) is required for all new firefighters before they are allowed to respond to any emergency calls. Within 3 years of joining the fire service all firefighters must take the 64 hour class (Basic Firefighting). Existing firefighters are not exempt from these trainings. They must still take them even if they've been a firefighter for 20 years. I do not know what the deadlines are for taking them.
Additionally I believe that Blood Borne Pathogen training is required yearly. Do not consider my list comprehensive, I'm fairly certain there are some other required trainings.

Incidentally I have been told that after taking the 64 hr class firefighters may attend a live burn session at TFACA and then challenge the test for Firefighter I to obtain FF I certification.

I emailed TFACA about my issue. It didnt take them long to send me some information back. I may have stirred up a hornets nest with my dept by letting them know what i had done. But hey better safe than sorry. I got the PDF file, if anyone in TN would like me to send them it, I will be happy to do it.

This isn't a good place to address internal problems within the department but I think you are doing the right thing by making plans to improve your colleagues' training. Here's a link to the objectives we are required to teach in Texas. Should be similar anyway.

I discovered an interesting contradiction on the TFACA site regarding Live Burn sessions. In one spot F110 is clearly defined as being for Firefighters who have completed FF100 (the 64 Hour class) http://www.state.tn.us/commerce/sfm/tfaca/documents/FireSection.pdf. In another spot on their site they specifically state that F110 is NOT for those who have completed only FF100 and instead F111 says that it's for those who have completed FF100.

I've emailed them on that discrepancy since your post has got me thinking about going for my Live Burn training again.
