Just wondering if your departments do stand by for law enforcement. My department has been staged at the IC post for a barricaded gunman for last 6 hours. 1 engine 1 ambulance 5 members just sitting there idling away.

Just curious if other departments actually stay at the incident or stay at the station till needed. Sorry if this doesn't make any sense I'm very tired and in desparet need of some sleep.

We do a staged response. We have already had one of these this year and was staged two miles away from the incident (Rural Area). Subject was threatening personal harm and when Law Enforcement removed the electricity the subject started a fire to keep warm. Law Enforcement feared the subject would try to burn the house.

Makes for a long night idling in an Engine.
If we get a "violence in progress" we sit and wait at the station until PD says the scene is safe and clear.
Doesn't happen very often. Once in ten years, maybe. Once the police fired tear gas into a house during a standoff in a neighboring community. The house caught fire and was well involved before it was over.
