idk why you are being so hostile about this all i did was ask a question and being a Firefighter is suppose to be a brotherhood dont be rude im never rude to fellow firefighters even if i dont like them.
where was your grandfather stationed at before he retired? I knew what you ment, here nothing to mention thats for sure, I think gas is to expensive for arrsonists to start fire with anymore lol
my grandpa was station in chicago at engine co.59 and truck hook and ladder co 47 the station was on hollywood st. and ridge avenue in edgewater illinois not to far away from central chicago.
I'm trying to think if I had stopped by that station before, a few guys I know work up there, mostly I have road on Engine 72, at E72, TL 24 Batt. 23 on the south side and also on Tower Ladder 10 and Engine 4 (housed together) on Division St. in Cabrini Green. Amazing what the area looks like now compaired to just a few years ago, I am so happy that Chicago gave people vouchers to get out and come to city's like mine lol I live about an 1 1/2 to 2 hours west of Chicago in Elkhart, IN
Everyone in here knows what he meant by "Good". If you dont find firefighting or rescue work exciting or "good" and get depressed everytime someone looses something or someone, get a new job or retire. I don't think any firefighter is "excited" that someone else died or lost everything they own so they can do their job. It is a must to have compassion for the families and victims. People call us when they are having the worst day of their lives and we are there to help. If you have never gone back to the dept. and joked about calls to blow off stress, then someday you will meltdown.... everyone deals with tragedy in their own ways.
it's sad, but true, anyways, we're not happy because someone is loosing his property, or even worse, his family or friends, the thing that makes us excited is that we are doing our jobs, is that we are being usefull to the comunity, to our people, i think we must not loose the real meaning of our jobs, i've always said that fire fighting is the most clean (in an ethic way), and efective way to help other people, 'cause, your had is given to those people in the right and exact time when needed, and with no intermediaries, or trough someone, so, lets be proud of our life styles, (fire fighting is not a job, is la lifestyle in the end)
