A place where we can share stories and experiences from the different fire schools that we have attended over the years.

Our local firefighters association just finished hosting the Dixie Fire School which is an annual regional fire school. It brought in over 800 students from across the state for 2 days of various classes including live fire training, vehicle extrication including large vehicles, farm rescue and firefighter rescue & survival.

I'll start off by saying this years school was one of the best Dixie School's I've attended over the past 10 years. We have a new crew in overseeing things & they pulled off a really good school. I myself was out assisting in the live fire area with an engine that my dept. supplied.

In the live fire area we had the propane simulator on Saturday which ran about 30+ students through. We also had a live burn trailer and a vehicle that cycled about 50 - 60 students through over Saturday & Sunday.
When I was the department our department was to small but when I was in training we went to 2 diffrent larger departments for TRT and live fire. It was fun.
First part of the year is a busy start for fire schools here. We start off with an Officers School at the end of February, then Dixie FS in March. Little bit of a break until the next one which comes in June.

This year's Officer School was really good. Sat in a class taught by Edward Buchanan on Structural Tactics with Limited Manpower, was a fantastic class. He is an awesome instructor. He's a division Chief for Hanover, VA.
Try to go to all you can Justine, knowledge is a powerful thing and it's something we never get a full tank of.
Our county association sponsers a fire school every year in conjunction with a neighboring county. It has really grown and expanded over the years.Getting to be a very nice facility.
Our dept. has hosted the vehicle fire class the last two years and I have been the engineer for that so I haven't taken any classes there.I have taken several other classes in the area though.I like training and learning from different instructors.Pretty blessed with some good training here in our corner of PA.
Have a lot of stories from over the years but will have to think before I print so to protect the guilty and innocent.

Live Burn at County Academy with 13 other Depts , it was a little hot
we kept getting yelled at because we were exceeding the temp that the burn building is rated for
