Comments to dispatch

So what is the funniest thing you have ever said to dispatch or heard over the radio?

"The roads are slicker than goose snot" (neighboring station, this still has a rolling)

"Standy by for clear code or you can pick one" (my station, I could not find our code book)

So what have you done to make dispatch laugh, shake their heads, and go "Really?"

My response area is on the edge of the city about 25 kilometres (about 15 miles) from the city centre where our comms centre is, I got paged one morning for a second alarm structure fire, I called the comms centre to get an update they said that no appliances were on scene yet but it was a big structure fire, naturally I asked if they were receiving multiple calls they said no ......... we can see the fire from here ...........

I think this has become a bit of a competition between the fire crews in town ...... still always makes me smile ..... Normal response at a fire scene is to give a quick sitrep such as one 10metre x 10 metre rubbish fire getting to work with 1 HPD (High pressure delivery) .............. every now and again you will get a report ........ one small rubbish fire extinguished by one size 10 firemans boot ......................

One evening we received a medical call, two medics arrived on scene and the Life Amb Unit was in route. Shortly after, the first responders on scene realized that the amb. had past the the location. The radio transmission stated; "Dispatch, be adviced that Life Just Pasted Us By!

I think our latest was a chimney fire we had about 2 weeks back dispatch came across the radio stating the resident was throwing snow balls at it , PD arrived on scene and confirmed Active chimney fire with flames showing from the elbow and the resident throwing snow balls at it , right now we are adding the saying to one of our trucks that says "Just throw some snow at it "

The first one reminds me of the church fire we had a few years ago. It was an arson fire that lit up the sky around 7pm. You could see it for miles. I was supposed to have been there that night to help set up for a function, but my daughter got sick so I stayed home.
