Greetings Randy, I did two yrs of active, from1977 to 1979. Tech schooled at Chanute, then spent the rest at Eglin AFB FLA, before i got a hardship.

I did my time at Chanute as well, school in 86 and then was with the base department from 89 till 93 when we closed the base. Finally retiring from active duty on 1 Nov.

I was bored,, and googled Chanute once. I found a site of pictures that somebody took years after it closed,,, it's unbelievable to see what a ghost town it had become
Congrats on your retirement. But your still a young'un,, what ya going to get yourself into after all the years of "the great way of life"?

I am working on getting into the civil service system. I really miss working at Chanute. Grew up an hour away from there so it was nice to close to home for a while.

I was a DOD Firefighter, Driver/Operator for 19 years and then 5 years in Fire Protection Retiring 31 Aug. 2006, also I spent 21 yrs. in the Air Force Reserves, in the Fire Dept.

I started my time in 79 went to Chanute, it was cold that winter for a guy from Texas then two years in Aviano Italy, then finished at Brooks in San Antonio Texas, only did my 4 and got out,

Chanute 1987 USAFR Carswell AFB and DoD Civilian 1987-Present...still 17 to go to retire.

Have been at in order:

NAS Dallas 1987-1991
NAS Pensacola 1991-1992
Carswell ARB 1993-1994
Ft Stewart/Hunter AAF 1994-1998
Ft Hood 1998-2002
NAS Corpus Christi 2006-Present

Reserves at Carswell and Duke Field Fl

Yea, I was for 25 years at the Niagara Falls Intl. Airport , but retired in Sept. 2006. Miss the the guys I worked with.

I spent 21 yrs. in the Reserves as a Firefighter ,retired 2004.

I would say there are a bunch some of us are / were civilians and manned the fire station full time and weekends the Reserve and Guard guys took over..
I worked at Niagara Falls Air Force Base FD from 1973 to 1981 (I saw Bob Allard on here)
quit there and now am at the Buffalo-Niagara Int'l Airport in Cheektowaga,NY ( got tired of the 24 on/24 off......and better pay of course with 4 on 4 off....

I am here from the Niagara Falls AFB from 1982 - 2007 and also I was a Reserveist for 21 yrs and retired from there also. Met Al at the Base Fire Dept. Great guy, but alittle crazy.
