We have Minitor V's however, I usually don't wear it while on-duty. Inside the station, I can hear the tones through the building speakers, and outside the station I'm wearing a radio.
I started at my F.D. with a Minitor II. I thought it was good (it got the job done) until we upgraded to the Minitpr III. Then a few years ago we upgraded again to the Minitor V. I like the audio replay feature. It save asking dispatch, "what were the numericas on 3rd street?", you just hit the buttin and replay the call. Nice!
For one of my departments I have a Minitor IV. The other department that I run for has the paging programmed into our radios, so we dont carry a "pager" for that department, just our radios. Both departments issue "pagers" to uncertifieds/explorers, they just have very strict rules that they must abide by to 1-have the privelege of carrying a pager and 2- to even remain on the department.
when i started in the fire dewpt i had a mintior 1 the brick then i moved and joined a new fire department and they had minitor 2 then a few years later i got a minitor iv now that i am a driver/pumper operator i hate them they are to bulky and would rather have my minitor v back or go to a all new system of some type and no are juniors don't carry pagers
We have Minitor V's. We serve multiple counties. They're good for that purpose. I keep mine by the bed while I'm sleeping. During the day I wear a Motorola HT1250LS portable radio, which also doubles as a pager, beeping when tones are received.
I've had a Minitor II since shortly after I joined a little over a year ago. Most of the guys also have Minitor II's, but a few have the Minitor V. I'm the only explorer on our department with a pager but I also live second closest to the station.
When I started not many companies used pagers, we had air horns that blew a box number. You looked up on a sheet to see what corner the box was on and you responded to the corner. I bought my own minitor 1 once the department got radios and used it for about 10 years. Then 20 years ago I moved and joined another company they had to buy me a minitor II. I asked them to get a relay in the charger, which they did. I ran a special circuit in my house which is plugged in to the charger. When that company gets tapped out for a call I have a light turn on in my kitchen, basement and garage so that I don't have to turn any lights on at night when we get a call. This pager has been sitting in the charger for the past 6 years. I think that I had to send it in to have it repaired one time. 6 years ago I joined another company they gave me a minitor III, I had to send it back to have it repaired. A minitor IV was sent back to me in its place. When the company gave me a minitor V I used it for about 2 weeks and asked for my minitor IV back. I have been using
minitors for the past 38 years and have had very little trouble with them.
I have a Minitor V. Pretty good pager. I just wish we would get ones with the stored voice option. It would be nice to have for those late night calls when I'm dead asleep and don't hear the address or when I'm at work. There are some places where its really loud and I can't always hear the page.
I have a Minitor V which is programmed for both of my depts. They are in the same county and on the same radio fq. I havnt had any problems. When I first started I had a scanner I bought. Sevearl Months later I got a Minitor III which I had for over a year untill it died. Then I got a second III and it died a few months later. I got a V about 3 years ago and I love it. I also have a Motorola Radius CP200 and a Kenwood Mobile in my truck.
