NFPA 1584 requires rehab at the scene of all emergancy incidents;as well as training exercises. Highlights of 1584 include nine different specific areas. Some aerea's of importance include  Relief from the climatic zones,  Calorie and electrolyte replacement, and medical monitoring just to name a few. We are all aware that many of the larger cities across the nation have specific rehab units. These units respond to assignments beyond the first alarm. There are also units such as the salvation army who assist with calorie replacement on scene.

What specific requirements does you department have for rehab on the incident scene?

Does your department or organization comply with 1584?

When responding to a structure fire or specialty incident who is responsable for the rehab sector?

What are your departments specific requirements for training exercises?

Do you compy with 1584 or use the areas which you believe at the time?

Do you have a SOG on rehab and does it comply with the current standard?

Let's hear what everone has to say

The nine components of rehab are extremly important. I believe that many times individuals will forget how important the components realy are. I have seen rehab officers not even consider the importance of climante in rehab. Many times because they are not having issues with the climate. The big one that I many times see is firefighters and officers rehabing in the hot zone. Though there may not be a danger at the time. Rehab should not be set up in the hot zone. Also when firefighters are in rehab, they should not be in an area where they could be tempted to leave rehab prior to being released. An example with opertions happening they want to be involved with or want to.
For my Inst II project I wrote a paper on Rehab. One of the recommendations I found during research was that may organizations forget to mention about locations where rehab should or should not be set up. As well as forgetting about calorie replacement. Or what is used for calorire replacement. Many times organizations will go to a fast food place like Hardee's as apposed to obtaining energy bars and water or sports drinks. My current department's SOG require's rehab set up for all structure fires, haz mat, technical rescue, and training assignments.
