WHO NEEDS TO TRAIN
iI LOVE HOW NOBODY NEEDS TO TRAIN.BUT EVERYONE MAKES THE CALLS.SEEMS TO BE A BIG PROBLEM IN ALOT OF COMPANYS

All of u are right but in mcnairy county they don't push it.I do in house training and I'm a state instructor.were gonna move out to another county one day.if I can find one that will have people wanting to train.but till then I'll keep on trucking here.thanks again for everyone who replied to this

every monday is training night at our station. wether its just tying knots are starting up the saw or full scba part 1 and 2 mandatory training we always have soemthing going on mondays. and if you do not make all the madatory trainings in the year the chiefs pull your gear(volunteer) career always gets theirs done because they are stuck in house and have no way to avoid it. also every duty crew you run, depending on if you have a good officer or not, you usually run a drill while your at the station.

i think we should do more traing more than we do .when we respond to any call the public expect us to know whay we are doing . and sometimes we do a good job of fakeing it . we should have some kind of training every week . also to make our pratices more interesting . i pray that we never have a real bad day , from not having the right training.

We all need training no matter how many runs we get. Some of us like my little department need more than others. We dont get the hands on experience, but we have good training techniques. Even then we need more hands on training to keep up with the changing times in the fire service. So to answer your question everyone needs training and hands on experience.

The day you think you know enough is the day you need to get out of the fire service..........I have spent 34 years in the fire service and I learn everyday, and I look forward to the next available class. Techniques and skills change everyday, the last 10 years have been explosive in changes in turnout gear, scba units, trucks, you name it.....EVERYBODY needs to train as often as you can.

I don't know about every other career department, but training is scheduled M-F with extra on the weekends in some form. There is never a day we don't have training happening.
For volunteer departments, I know how hard it is to get the training done. NFPA if I remember right requires about 200 hrs per year. There will never be a way to get it all done. I would recommend your department go to once per week on a set day and set the time to do high quality training and drills. Plan the drills well in advance and stick to the training. Be sure the training starts on time and ends 5 minutes before it should be over. I would have the drills start at 1800 hrs and end at 2055 on time. I know some of the guys will not be happy, but you must chow them that something needs to be done. If they know what the training is going to be and they want to do the job, then they will be there. Get the training set up as a 3 year plan so the training in a 3 year never gets doubled up to badly (some training I know is monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, and yearly). At least one of the weekly training sessions should be EMS.
If you are looking for places to get drills, go to firefighterclosecalls.com, there are is a bunch of training in there thaqt take up about 45 -60 minutes. That will help some. Safety MUST be included, make it 6 minutes long, that will work great because at the end of the month you will have about 30 minutes of that and in a year 6 hours.

I train and learn for me not because I have a mandatory number to meet or because anyone says I have to I train for my three kids and my crew with me and for the public I serve thats why I train!

i first want to say thanks for the reply.second im a in house trainer and a multi state instructor i love to train cause i learn from it everytime and the firefighters learn.but the chiefs and officers through out mcnairy county its horrible.but i hope one day ill find a firehouse that wants training.

simple solution to this problem pull gear. When they realize there gear is gone and can't ride trucks they'll do something.

i ofered many times to our vol to train day and a night training im very flexible.and i work 3rd shift

thats how i do to i do nights on the weekend day during the week.but people always say they are to busy to come

i am always going out of town for new training every year.i try to get our people to do in house training plus my state training.but its like a losing battle
