I started out as a junior fireman in 1978 and in 1979 when I turned 16 was able to get on the roster at my volunteer department. At 18, I landed a career job that took me 28.5 years to the rank of Battalion Chief. During that time, I left the volunteer department, came back, left again and came back again. Having retired from my paying job as a firefighter, I am back again with my volunteers
