PHENIX CITY, Ala. - A 40-year-old Columbus, Ga. fire captain has been killed in a one-car highway accident in Russell County, Ala.

Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. says Robert Fletcher Floyd's Lincoln Towncar ran off the road Sunday night, hit a ditch and several trees and burst into flames. He was pronounced dead Sunday night.

The coroner says no autopsy is planned. Floyd lived in the unincorporated Seale community in Russell County.
