First, an apology for psoting so frequently. I enjoy hearing from my brother and sister firefighters from career and volunteer departments alike!

This one probably applies more to my fellow volunteers:

How often do you drill with mutual aid departments? Since we have no hydrants in our response area, we often utilize drafting and tanker shuttles.

I live in a rural area of Vermont where we train a lot with our Mutual Aid Departments. As we don't have hydrants either we use Dry hydrants and tanker shuttles as well and the set up we have for our SOP'S/SOG'S works really well. I hope this helps you out in any way possible... Sean
So far our dept has not trained on a regular basis with mutual aid depts. they did do a multi jurisdicional training at one of our nursing homes tho this year but alot of us were not able to attend due to it being during the day and alot of my brothers an sisters work other jobs during the day. It would be nice to do some training with them at times.
We should do better, But the only time we drill is at the real deal. We always work great together.
Evening Chief, Do you have any plans set up for when you are doing the real deal as to who goes where and does what? If we are the primary called first we set up the water supply but If we are called in as Mutual Aid our first app out of the station is our tanker then our engine... What are your SOP'S/SOG'S for this situation?
i am a volunteer with a rural dept in Alberta Canada and i have been wit the dept for 2years. i have never trained with a mutual aid dept. the only time we see them is when we are responding to each other's calls. it would be nice to train with them so we can see how they might do things differently.
Wish it could be more, but we usually train with MA dept's once or twice per year. I must say though, we still work well together on MA calls.
