Arkansas Forestry Commission is Mourning the Loss of a firefighter in lafayette County

The Arkansas Forestry Commission is mourning the loss of a firefighter in Lafayette County.

Chris Adams, 25, a Ranger I, was killed this morning in a rollover accident while driving an Arkansas Forestry Commission 2002 International tractor trailer.

The accident happened on Highway 360, about one-half mile east of Highway 29, while Adams was on the way to check on a fire from earlier in the morning. The cause of the accident is not yet known.

“It’s a tragedy for the forestry family,” said William Sprinkle, District 4 Forester. “It hurts when we lose one of our guys we’re so close to.”

Adams was hired in February 2008, and had received a promotion in March 2009.

“What a tragedy. Chris was a great young guy and a good Ranger,” State Forester John T. Shannon said. “God be with Chris and his family and friends.”

Very sad news. Vehicle crashes kill more wildland firefighters than fires do. Our hearts go out to the Arkansas Forestry Commission family and the Adams family. May he rest in peace.
R.I.P Brother
