I could use any suggestions, help, etc. I just turned in my application to be a volunteer FF, this is for a combination department (one of the few volunteer FD's in the Seattle area left). The orientation class is next week and the testing is in 5 weeks. The testing consists of a written, modified CPAT (from what I can tell) and an oral. So my questions are;

1) is it okay to just show up on the weekend or evenings to ask questions and meet people or should I make an appt./call ahead (I don't know the etiquette for FD's - grin).

2) What do you suggest for additional fitness (I am fit very, besides I work for UPS, where I get plenty of excersise - especially at this time of year - lol).

3) Suggested reading material?

Thank you
Suz

Im still a probie for our town rescue squad. Im becoming an emt. I had all the same questions as u do so i might be able to help u out some. I showed up at my local hall and just started talking to people. I didnt call to make any appointments but it may be good to call and talk to your captain or someone cause atleast here there isnt always someone at the station. Its whenever the tone goes off that we show up sometimes. As per the fitness. yes its good to be atleast somewhat fit. U say your ver fit so that is a plus. The reading material there isnt much u can read up on until u start your trainings to be honest.
If you turned in your app. to the chief I would wait till he was there so he could introduce you to the guys on shift then hang out and watch what there daily routine is, see if you can help( be careful of pranks lol) and get to know them and youll be fine.
