Do you have a dive team? If so are they certified by Dive Rescue International? Do you have DRI certified instructors? How many divers do you have or want to have? What types of dives do you do or plan to do,ie. rescue/recovery victems, evidence recovery, etc? Rescue Diving is the most dangerouse operation a FD can perform.

I am going to get back to you on sop's however as a diver with over 1000 dives and many to 250' I will say fighting a fire is alot more strenuois . There is no such thing as rescue diving, only recovery. Rescue swimmers are in the rescue mode. Yes DRI does a great job of training, as will as ice diving. There is no better training than going diving and getting comfortable with yourself and gear. All motions underwater just like fighting fire need to be done without thinking about your moves IE: Pratice Pratice Pratice

Be safe
Wayne, I looked at your profile..Does your FD have a dive team? Are you a Public safety diver? How many of those dives were a job?
250 feet...? Why in the hell would anyone dive that deep...? Do you do commercial/salvage diving...? Sure as hell wasn't scuba.......I disagree with your comment about Rescue Diving....I have seen divers get into trouble and it took a good team of rescue divers to pull his ass out.....alive
Sort of thinking the same Truck.........
Yes we have a 8 person dive team, At this time 3 are DR1 , the rest have been trained inhouse and documented on training records. we have tried to follow DRI's books and class style. Also 2 are DRI med-dive cert. $$$ hurts us on the classes. All are padi advanced and some have more. I have been handed the whole bunch and want to try to do it RIGHT.
We are Rescue / Recovery, and we do spend alot of time in the water, doing training, and search patterns.

thanks guys
check with the county. might get funding to send your guys thought the class to make sure they have the papper work to back you up
Its were the shipwrecks are. And oh yes you must be ready to help your own staff, but my comment about recovey was basied upon time of call and response time. I was involved with a prior dept that had a Dive team, very expensive to operate. We had the best equipment sonar, full face masks with coms, dry suits, and a air boat ( not the best dive platform ) great team about 9 members.

I agree with Jason, check with your county and see if you can make it a county dive team with additonal funding.

I know when I was on our Dive Team,,,legally we could not put "Rescue Dive Team" on out trailer....because the public would see that and say "Hey they should have rescued him..." when it was a recovery. Sounds like you are on the right track by keeping all of your documentation in line.....if you have questions...be sure to ask someone with a legal background! Good Luck and BE SAFE!!! Tone
I will post again as my prior seems to have mystically disappeared....You must be hard hat diving to go 250 feet and I assumed using mixed gasses....Not many teams can afford the training let alone the equipment involved.....we don't post "Rescue Diving" on our equipment we have "Offshore Rescue/Recovery Team" On it.....
Hi Barry,
I see you work in South Carolina. Will you be attending the Public Safety Diver Conference in Charlotte this coming September 21-24? It's hosted by Charlotte Fire and IADRS. It's a great opportunity to meet and talk with PSD leaders from across the nation and in particular the South Eastern USA.
I will be there and I'm coming from Maui, Hawaii, again. The conference always helps my program in some way every time I attend. Look me up when you get there. I arrive early on 9/21.
Aloha,
Kevin
