Hi all, just to introduce myself - my husband is the firefighter not me but I am doing some research for him. He is currently stationed at Fort Rucker, AL as an active duty firefighter. We only have 4.5 months left in service to go and then he plans to leave the Army and start a career as a civilian firefighter. We have been putting applications out to several DoD jobs that have come about. He did get a call from a base in Georgia a few months ago but they needed someone earlier than when he was available. Now that we are under the 6 month mark we are applying everywhere and anywhere! I am trying to figure out what type of schedule most firefighters that are DoD work. Here are Rucker he is working at Flat Iron which is the medivac unit - he is the firefighter on the crew. The stagefields here are 18 hr shifts and fixed station on post is 24/24. We REALLY dont care for the 24/24 schedule so can anyone tell us what other DoD stations offer? He applied to Fort Campbell and according to the CPOL tracking his application was pulled so we really want to be prepaired for what all is out there incase they offer him a spot. He is also applying at city jobs and just completed his first official testing for a city in Illinois - their schedule is an amazing 24 on 72 off. We know we cant be too picky because he needs to get in the system but we want to be prepaired to.
Thanks for any info you can give!
Kristina
