Has anyone ever used a trailer mounted fire pump in the range of 1000 - 1500 gpm?  I work in a rural department where water supply is a definitive factor in our success.  My thought is that a trailer unit would give us a piece of equipment that could sit at a dry hydrant and supply our tanker shuttles.  This could free up an engine for suppression.  It would also cost much less then another engine, but it is kind of a 1 trick pony.  The full time departments around here are starting to get a lot of trailers for Hazmat, rescue, and other special operations.  They seem to work well.  I would love to hear everybody's input on these types of trailers, and if they have a place in a rural environment.

in a rural setting i love this as a concept. it relives an incident commander of one worry and only usually ties up 1 person to work it "good job for an elder like myself". i was in a rural department for a while and toyed with the same idea but never submitted it. in my idea you would have to commit a hose wagon to really make it work right. after the pump site is confirmed, you have to complete the lay. i like the use of 5inch with a multi outlet appliance
A dedicated pump trailer would be sexy. However, they're expensive - I checked - upwards of $50-60 grand. That money does not exist in my department. We bought a 27 HP high-volume pump from CET Pumps a couple of years ago. It's rated at 700 gpm at 10 psi (by the people who are trying to sell their product). I don't know if it will actually pump 700 gpm or not, but I do know that when we've used it, we have been able to park tankers and put those drivers into other fireground activities. We equipped ours with 5" Storz intake and discharge fittings for use with LDH, and the whole assembly fits in the compartment of one of our trucks. Weighs nearly 200 lbs, but has wheels for maneuvering. For us, it has been worth every penny we spent on it.
