we had a 20 acre woods fire started from a tree a farmer had cut down and burned..we arrived on scene toned NC forest service out.and toned our department's wildfire division out
Our wildfire season is just starting. I hope we get nothing at all - but that won't happen. There will be fires.
A tree fire started in the black? Common enough. How far into the black? Was it at risk of spreading the burnt area? If not, let it burn. If it was liable to cause ember problems, then it needs to be extinguished.
I've seen one old dead tree burning so hard that the flame was almost invisible, almost colourless. It was well inside the black so we left it while going on to another part of the fire - when we came back there was nothing left showing. Nothing.
