Everyone want a job in todays world, and it is a cut throat world, If you have question, then you should be reading the regs and DODI's for the answers, most Perm postion in dod require many certifications and without them you will not be hired, also You are temps, but have you been doing your cdc's??? This give the upper managment a idea that you want to improve and progress not just there for a job and go no where, give nothing but the minimum, and slide by till you retire, We in DOD take pride in the fact the we take care of the most important weapon systems and all of it functioning parts. "Soldiers, Sailers, Airmen, Marine's, and their dependents, family ect... They are the reason we strive to provide the best for the best and a Chief has a large mission to accomplish and needs quality not quanity employees.
I wanted to thank you for the input..we were brought in as GS-5's thus having all our certs for the GS-5 position, as for me I have FF1,2 HazMat OP's and awareness with IFSAC and Haz Mat tech thru proboard and numerous other certs, and am an EMT-I..we have no training chief here as he is retiring and we have asked to take our CDC's,but we are told only the training will give the OK to take them..well he did tell our Captains to order CDC's for us back in Sept 09, but now since he's been on terminal leave, our Captain states he is waiting for the new training at to be appointed..its evident that its not so easy for us here..but thanks and if you know of any advice or guidance I would appreciate it!!
Hey Zeke you may want to take your training into your own hands. I know it sucks and the DoD should be picking up the tab for certs but.. I know that south carolina fire academy fire does IFSAC or Pro board classes. Get your D/O pumper, mobile water supply, and ARFF. If your chief at camp lejeune cannot or will not put you on permanent then there are other departments that require you to qualify as a GS-6 to get hired. I would also recomend getting your instructor 1. I hope This helps you avance in your Dod service!
if you cant get hired on there, i hear mid-atlantic region is about to hire in the norfolk Virginia area very soon. I am at NAS Oceana in Virginia beach. I keep hearing about us opening up...keep checking usa jobs.
thanx fellas!!! i really appreciate the feed back..i left camp lejuene in april 2010 to pick up a fulltime gs 6 position as a health technician..its a permanent job so i hope to do my time there and transfer back into the fire service soon after my probationary period..im t ft bliss now hoping to get on with them!! you all stay safe out there!! ill be back on the line soon i hope!!! zeke
