Close Call in Baltimore Apartment Fire; Firefighter Jumps from Second Floor

BALTIMORE - Baltimore City fire department officials say two women and a firefighter have been injured in a blaze.

Officials say crews responded to a three-story brick apartment building on fire on Liberty Heights Avenue late Wednesday. They say there was heavy fire and smoke on the third floor.

Crews rescued an elderly woman suffering from smoke inhalation and burns, and took her to a hospital.

One firefighter fell from the second floor as he was helping extinguish the flames. He was in serious condition at a hospital with burns to his hands and other injuries.

A young woman also had minor smoke inhalation and was in stable condition.

Authorities are investigating what caused the fire.

At the height of the fire, how many FF's were missing and how many Maydays were called? It was quite intense with radio traffic from command and others.
I really would like to know if this is a mix of dispatch and fireground channels. When mixed it portrays alot of confusion. When a firefighter gets caught, it takes the intensity level up many levels. Levels in which a department may have not prepared the commanders for, with policies, procedures and training

I heard a Mayday at 1:53 without acknowledgement. Then at 3:10, "I got a firefighter down in the rear" without acknowledgement as well.

When teaching Mayday Management for IC; I expound that when Mayday's are called or when Command conduct's PAR's, this requires extreme radio discipline from the firefighters. Command should also shut down all the other routine traffic with a blanket statement, gain control of the frequency and account for the distressed firefighter.

Glad to hear the brother is gonna be OK.
