SCHYULKILL HAVEN, Pa. - State police have arrested three eastern Pennsylvania firefighters in connection with nine arsons that caused damages estimated at more than $2 million.
Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven charged the three men on Tuesday and say more arrests are possible.
Authorities charged 21-year-old Shawn Hoy, of Pine Grove, and 21-year-old John Eichert, of Orwigsburg, with multiple counts of arson. Eighteen-year-old Matthew Dixon, of Friedensburg, is charged with a single count.
Police say the men were all active members of the Friedensburg Fire Company when the arsons occurred. Seven barns, a vacant house and a field were burned between September 2009 and January 2010. Hoy is also charged in a 2007 fire.
The suspects are being held in Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of bail. It was not immediately clear if they had attorneys.

The "racist" thing is almost as over-the-top as the "mysogonist" thing, but I do see where you're coming from.
Just be advised, calling people "Asshole" - and you're not alone in doing that - might end up getting the entire discussion deleted by ( )ave and his "personal attack" police.
You didn't say you were a vollie. It's okay, it's normal to feel a little insecure at times. (And don't be looking up my skirt - I might think you're a sexist. Or a chauvinist. Or a mysoginist. All of which are much worse than being a vollie.) But you did good, overall.
I just noticed that JMS's comment has been removed (I think he has been lurking about behind the scene.) It was inevitable and (unless he-who-can-not-be-named decides to pull the plug on this discussion, which I hope NOT as it is a very relevant discussion) was the reason I copied and pasted the pertinent comment into my reply.
WP, you strike me as someone who disdains hyperbole (not a bad thing) and both the misogynist and racist comments could be construed as (or approaching) the speed of hyperbole, the wording of JSM's comment about a black male was so uncalled for on so many levels that really I don't think it could be construed in any way BUT as being racist.
And whether or not one or both of my comments were hyperbolic I would be very willing to bet that both, upon a more close examination, are spot on.
WP,
I am indeed a sexist (I divide the world into two groups, male and female), I am not so much a chauvinist (but can be chivalrous). I'm definitely not a misogynist (note that I use the correct (or at least accepted) spelling of that word.) I didn't say I was a vollie, I didn't say I wasn't, nor am I insecure (do you really think I'm insecure? Really? Why do you think that?)
Jack,
Were your comments "hyperbole" (which I'm actually a big fan of) or were they "spot on", as you suspect. (And in which you may well BE spot on). They can't be both.
I knew from the git-go that JMS wouldn't be long for this (FFN) world. But I think his believed-to-be-racist comment about lazy blacks was possibly more of a knee-jerk reaction to the "white arsonist" (accurate though it may be) comment than a revelation of racism. Alas, now we'll never know.
Damn! I didnt think "mysogonist" looked right. I was wron... I was mistak.... I was incorr.... (Damn, this is almost too hard for me). I wasn't exactly correct. There, I said it.
I think we need the minority report system on this one then we could prevent things like this from even being a beer drinking Idea. I remember being a kid and running down the street to catch the red truck and wanted to ride with them and help I cant really understand why somethings happen I am however glad I still have the desire and willingness to keep faith In why am a person who can see the little kid.... Cant say much for those guys but I love being a fireman as i hope you all feel the same
"But you misinterpreted me," WestPhilly, in that I wasn't calling whoozis that deserved word, only saying that that its deplorable attitude and its coincidental name to a story and a REAL gentleman of old was cause for a new title that befitted that character's . . . character. I was thinking lots of Crude Language but declined to throw any of that in, not wanting to appear stooped to that person's low level, whether on the side of good or not. Face to face it'd have been a different story all right! But that reactionary's race-specific comment - especially without knowing precisely who the man it blindly targeted is - doesn't leave much wiggle room for interpretation of what it is below its spittle-spewing surface. Better that one should go post its rants on youtube, which allows racist comments to be posted that make JMS's, um, pale in comparison.
I sure didn't mean to misrepresent you. I guess I messed up when I read "....this ignorance-spewing reactionary racist..." and then "Justin Morgan Is A Horse's Asshole." But I'm good now. Thanks for clearing that up.
Back to the point of the article, it's easy to understand that a few folks would step out of line like this. If you are familiar with statistics and the Bell curve, you are aware that there are always "outliers", "exceptions" if you will.
You see it in just about every activity in life. Only problem is, the fire service has been held up so high, that any little "hiccup" gets instant, and grand attention (probably what these guys were after in the first place)!
This just emphasizes the need for officers to take the new guys under their wing, and mentor them in the finer arts of firefighting, such as individual honor, self respect and the quiet pride of knowing you are doing a noble thing, but not having to have your back slapped every time you do anything! This goes hand in hand with the other article on here about seeking thanks.
These things are character weakness's and show up in the persons life in other venues. It should also show up in training. The over-eager, loudmouthed, excited person needs to be watched!
We had a guy on our department once that just went "stupid" when the tones went off. It's like his brain just switched off. Finally had to let him go. He was a danger to himself and the rest of the department. He loved the "attention"that being a firefighter brought him. He even called in "fake" calls, just to be the first in the barn and out on the first rig.
Profiling, having received so much negative attention, is just using the rules of probability. Thats why "experience" is valuable. Experience helps you understand what might be more probable. You don't have to be Einstein to realize that a car going 120 MPH is more probable to have a wreck than one going 45, yet that is profiling.
