I know I shouldn't have to post this, but the question has been posed to me a few times by the public an members of Emergency Services alike.I always thought, and as I was told when younger it was"SO YOU CAN SEE YOURSELF IN THEM."A nice recruitment tie in there, and just what a little boy(or girl)wants to hear/do.But I feel it represents Pride,Honor,Duty,Care,And A Clean Image to the pubic.Especially since there's been a lot of bad publicity lately all over the place. So,what reason where you given/do you/would you give as an answer to this question?

Because wax protects the paint, which protects the steel (or steal, as some of ya'll might spell it) from rusting.

Also, if you have a fire department that doesn't take care of their equipment, then exactly how good a fire department do think they may be? Apparatus are tools just like everything else and how well we take care of our tools is a pretty good indication of how well we do our job. In conclusion, anything not kept clean and in as good a condition as possible is going to deteriorate, somethings faster than others.
It gives the probies something to do!
This topic makes the "helmet sticker" thread and the "I don't understand" blog seem positively profound in contrast. Is it that slow of a day, fellas?
I actually had it asked of me by a member 20 years my senior. An it disgusted me."Why do we even bother washing them at all,What's the point???" he said.I just wanted a consensus of what anyone else would say to anyone who asked, thats all.And Yes It's been a slow day...so far.
Tony did you ever think maybe he was asking to see what your reply might be...? Some of us "old timers" are like that you know...kind of tells one where the other is at.....think about it....
point heard,taken,understood.
WP,
One really can't go wrong in answering this post...can one?
And as a general (though not ironclad) rule I tend to stay away from posts or blogs that begin with 'so' or 'ok', it's an almost guaranty that whatever is in it ain't gonna be profound.
your reply makes reading these posts sooooooo worthwhile, you are very funny WP...

Part of me wants to say tradition. We've all grown up accustomed to seeing the firefighters washing the fire trucks in front of the fire station since we were kids. For the USA, it's Normal Rockwell Americana.

I suppose if the public asked me such a daunting question, I would get real serious, and look directly at the person and tell them...

"The apparatus and equipment are maintained in top condition because if you ever need us, we will always be there and prepared for whatever we encounter."

Jack,
So, since I'm "one" of the one's who answered this post, I'm hardly in a position to disagree with you.

C/Bz,
And I wasn't even trying. (Guess that means no one takes me seriously). I wonder why?
Well you see sir... simply put because they don't get used much around here.

Real busy companies are all dirty and banged up!

(only kidding)
Family photo from back in the day?
