HOLDEN, La. - A Louisiana-based fire truck builder has won a contract to supply New York City's fire department with five heavy rescue trucks.
Terms of the agreement with Holden-based Ferrara Fire Apparatus Inc. were not released Wednesday. The deal follows a December contract for Ferrara to supply the New York department with 10 aerial ladders.
Ferrara has supplied various types of vehicles to New York over the past eight years, beginning with the Spirit of Louisiana truck it donated to the city after the terror attacks in 2001.
We just handed down our Ferrara Engine at Station #1 to one of our outlying companies. While I love our new engine, the Ferrara was a great engine too. We had few problems with it and it had plenty of power. I would highly recommend them!
They make a good rig, all 4 of our frontlines are made by Ferrara. 2 Engines, 1 Rescue, & 1 Quint. Never had a major problem with any and one of the Engines has survived 2 collisions and still trucking.
I think Ferrara will do them right, they have great reps and tech guys. It's gonna we tough at first I'm sure though, I've heard the FDNY is the "quickest killer of fire truck manufacturer's in the world" lol
