A volunteer firefighter died of a heart attack while responding to a fire Tuesday afternoon in Independence County.

According to the Northside Volunteer Fire Chief Karol Fleetwood, 52-year-old Henry Sandy was responding to a trailer fire in the county.

When Sandy arrived, he fell over suffering from a heart attack. Firefighters called for emergency personal who worked on Sandy and transported him to the White River Medical Center, where he later passed away.

Chief Fleetwood said Sandy had been with the department almost 10 years.
