Light Law for each State or Province.
I would just like a few questions answered without the (no they shouldn't be used - yes they should be used) I am just trying to collect information about each State and Province for stats. This is about Pov's.
1) Which State:
2) Which Province:
3) What color Light:
4) Is the Pov's in your State considerd an Emergency Vechile or is it a Courtesy Light:
5) Is the Pov's in your Province considerd and Emergency Vechile or is it a Courtesy Light:
6) Who issues the Light in your State:
7) Who issues the Light in your Province:
8) Who pays for the Light in your State:
9) Who pays for the Light in your Provicne:
If Volunteers that use Lgihts in their Pov's could answer these questions it would help me collect some important stats.
When I finish the collecting and prosses of the stats I will post them for everyone to see what the numbers are for and what they mean.

Just once I would like to read a complete post with jsut positive answers.
I don’t want this to sound rude but if you don't want to take part don't. Why is it that people always have to come in and say something negative about what others are talking about? As you can see others are taking part and it is much appreciated. I am sure if I went into your posts they might not interest me but I would tell you to go search and if I did have answers for you I would reply in a positive way. If I wasn't interested in what you were talking about I would just move on the something else.

In Ontario, volunteer firefighers run green lights. Strictly courtisy light, all traffic regulations are to be obeyed.
Having said that in a lot of areas serviced by volunteer departments, residents know the lights and are pretty decent about yeilding the right of way.
Lights are issued at the chief's descression according to dept policy, same goes for purchase - some departments purchase the lights, others it is a personal purchase.

I found the forum to be very informative. I haven't taken a lot of time to search the site. I just googled NC laws concerning pov lights and you're forum came up. Also found it very interesting to hear folks from other states.

I live in northern illinois, I have to provide my own light. I can run a blue light and headlight flashers. I usually never use the lights but I sell them, so I use them as demo lights. If anyone is interested in lights let me know I have a pretty good stock, email me at info@programmypager.com

State of Connecticut says blue for vol. fire green for EMS. Both are curtosey lights in which permits are issued by the chief and the department sets the regs. Purchasing is up to the members.

Agreed Art and Justin. If you have a problem with a post, report it...just coming on and telling people to search and not post isn't appropriate. NORTH CAROLINA
COLOR IS RED RED/WHITE SUPPOSED TO HAVE AN AMBER FLASHER ON DRIVER SIDE OF VEHICLE DUE TO NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION REGS. NO SIREN IN THE STATE UNLESS YOU ARE A CHIEF OR ASS CHIEF. LOL JK.... BUT YES THEY ARE ONLY CONSIDERED COUTTESY LIGHTS AND ITS UP TO DEPT SOP/SOG WEATHER YOU CAN HAVE THEM OR NOT MOST PLACES DO I HAVENT REALLY SEEN MANY DEPTS IN THE STATE THAT DONT.
I AM CURRENTLY IN SOUTH CAROLINA STATE LAW SAYS ROTATION OR ANY OTHER LIGHT THAT CAN BE SEEN IN 360 DEGREES AND AUDIBLE THAT CAN BE HEAR AT A REASONABLE DISTANCE IN FRONT OF YOU (NORMAL SIRENS). WHEN LIGHTS ARE ACTIVATED SIREN MUST BE ON AT ALL TIMES. SOME PLACES HAVE CHECK LIST TO USE I JUST RECENTLY GOT CERTIFIED IN MY COUNTY THROUGH THE EMERGENCY SERVICES DEPARTMENT AS AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE, HAD TO DO APPLICATION, INSURANCE LETTER, HAVE EVD, AND MIN OF FIREFIGHTER 1 CERT. HAD TO GO TO INSPECTIONS TURN ON LIGHTS THEY DID A WALK AROUND CHECK ALL OF VEHICLE THEN HAD TO MAKE SOME NOISE FOR THEM. ONCE PASSED HAD TO PLACE A REFLECTIVE STICKER STATEING AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLE ON WINSHIELD.
EITHER WAY YOU BUY YOUR LIGHTS AT OWN EXPENSE.

4. In Michigan my truck is considered a emergency vehicle
6. In our dept first you have to pass ff1 then take a emergency driving class and pass it
8. We have to pay for our own lights
In Michigan you half to have a light on the top of your pov that can be seen for 360 degrees and you must also have a 100 watt siren to be legal to operate as an emergency vehicle. You must also obey all traffic laws if you come to a stop sign or red light you have to come to a complete stop before preceding thorough it
