I am looking for drill ideas for juniors. I have found some websites with drills but was wondering what firefighters in the real world would recommend to a junior.
Thanks Seth
hose relays have them unroll hook em up and break em down n roll it back it trust me they may think its easy but they get the male and females end messed up
Are you not able to participate in drills with the rest of the dept.?
Whatever answers you get here, I would like to add that you should get to know where EVERYTHING is on the trucks and be able to get it if asked. Also, keep training donning and doffing your gear.
We can participate, we know where everything is. Were just looking for our own ideas since the turnout to drill slows down over the winter months and the juniors are tryin to keep busy.

These are not drills, but anything that deals with having to pay attention to detail will help in the long run. Cleaning the station, making sure storage of extra equipment is neat and orderly, make a detailed stock report of things that need replenished, etc., etc. Seriously, attention to detail.
Sorry I'm a Jr. FF as well, but as our Leuitenant, our whole post struggles with SCBA drills and Search and rescue. That's what I think needs to be incorporated in the majority of junior drills.
RIT overviews and practices wouldnt hurt for you guys as well.
Who is conducting such drills, the juniors yourselves, or do you have adults leading the training?
For our post the explorers meet the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month and there are off duty FFs who help with training on various topics. SCBA, RIT, Ladders, hoses, force entry, EMS, etc. Some safe training ideas is timing yourselves putting PPE on. SCBA familiarization...changing out a bottle blindfolded, buddy breathing etc. We have done some RIT/entrapment scenarios where an explorer was doing a search and a couple FF's used a rope to simulate entanglemnt. Radio comms, calling a MAYDAY, practicing knots and how to apply them such as to hoist a handline, fire extinguisher, pike pole, axe, etc. EMS, work on basic first aid, how to splint, bandage, obtain vitals, stabilization, how to move a pt while maintaining stabilization if they were at the bottom of stairs, etc. Nothing has to be elaborate or well thought out but simple stuff and don't be afraid to repeat things, a drill doesn't have to be something new every time.
