I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and hopefully get to know some people on this site. I joined to network and befriend some (hopefully many) of you amazing people out there who work in the Fire Service/EMS and risk your lives to save others every day.
I am also looking into joining the Fire Service within the next few years. I currently attend Seneca College (Toronto, Canada) in the Fire Protection Technology Program, and I plan to move into the Pre-Service Firefighter Program after I graduate from my current program. Completion of the programs will grant me a diploma in Fire Protection Technology and a Pre-Service Certificate which is equivalent to the NFPA 1001 cert.
Through the course of my training, I plan to attain my Level C First-Aid/CPR, DZ Driver licence, workout, and volunteer as well.
As professionals in your field, I was hoping I could earn some additional advice from you as to what else I could do to help my progress leading up to my career in the Fire Service. I know it's an extremely competitive field to get into, but this is my calling and I know it's what I want to get into. So any advice is appreciated =)
Thank you all very much for your time, and I hope to meet you and please feel free to add me as a friend.
Well Dan... You have a good writing style which is important for communicating with people, seem to have a game plan toward achieving your goal to work as a full time professional firefighter and the right attitude as far as I can see. Considering I'm one of the first old firemen on FFN to respond, I will leave you with a quote from Thoreau knowing that that you are well on your way. Stay safe and keep low and by the way, that will be you in the above photo! Live the dream!

Hi, Dan, and welcome. This site is filled with tons of knowledge from some very experienced firefighters, line officers and Chiefs.... for the most part, at least.
