Do You Have to be SCBA-trained and have FFI to Look For Victims in a House Full of Carbon Monoxide?

When I am 16 and 17 years old and my department has a call for carbon monoxide.Would I have to stay outside if they are looking for people inside?I was just wondering how that worked because it is not a fire.

Travis ,stay in and school and learn. Please dont doing anything to discredit the hard working men and women who take pride in this service. This is not a job is not a joke.
I just asked a question that I didn`t think that was dumb. And I am not even in the fire department yet so I really don`t know anything yet.I am on here to try and learn some things so when am a firefighter I will already learn something. And why do you guys want me booted off so I can`t ask stuff and want to learn.I know my school work comes first my department already told me that.I am doing pretty good in school I got higher then a 82 avg.And my english you guys come plain about me spelling I got a 95 in that so I might have a learning problem but I am not stupied. So if know one likes what I post then why do you even bother replying to this just don`t even look at it.
Wow. why does almost everyone on here seem to think that just because someone that is new to the fire service has a lot of questions that seem stupid doesn't belong here. He just wants to gain knowledge. Maybe he doesn't get enough training in his dept. Maybe he can't get anyone in his dept. to answer his questions. If someone walked into your station right now, asked for an aplication, and started asking questions about operations, would you tell them to leave, just because they are inexperienced? I'm glad that someone has finally offered to answer Travis's questions via messages. It will probably save him a lot of discouragement and hassle from asking people here that think juniors or under 18 members should not be involved in the fire service.
And yes, SCBA should be worn on a CO call. FF1 is very helpful, because you learn about operating SCBA, search techniques, and a lot of other information. I know this because i am currently taking FF1 in New York.
Travis; A lot of the information you keep asking about tends to be department specific, to find that information you need to sit down and read your department SOG/SOP manual. What works for one department may not always work for another. Add me to the list of those that are willing to answer any questions that you or any other Under 18 has. As for those of you that are too busy flaming this young man, perhaps you might want to just avoid reading his posts don't wast his time and the time of those of us that see the 16-18 year olds as the diamonds in the rough of the fire service.
My department that I will be in I go up there and hang out and they haven`t really trained scenes I been up there so I don`t know a lot. And if I ask something they are all there to ask it for me.
Travis I suggest that you try to learn as much as you can.Does your department have a dedicated training officer? Does your department train daily ,weekly or monthly? You must try to attend as many training sessions as you can .Get all of your basic skills mastered then pick a subject and become an expert on it. I don't think anyone will ever know everything about being a firefighter but if you train alot and try to learn as much as you can I think that will answer most of your questions and maybe the life you save one day will be yours . Good luck!
Beautiful Perfect Comments!!!
Everyone has been mentioning the effects of CO....

Nobody has mentioned the flammable range... 12% to 74%.

That is why one must be trained in SCBA use, be of age to join the FD and enter in full PPE.
Captain703, I agree with everything you said. Everyone including the chief, does everything from washing the trucks to sweeping out the station. The only stupid question is the one that hasnt been asked.
Thank you penrhyn!!!
