Two firefighters from the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality's Fire Department died and three were injured as two separate fires took place in İstanbul's Eyüp and Sultanbeyli districts
According to a written statement released by the municipality, fireman Mustafa Arabacı, who was among firefighters trying to extinguish the fire that erupted in a carpet shop in the Mehmet Akif neighborhood of Sultanbeyli, died after suffering from smoke inhalation. The other firemen, Ali Üreyil, Yaşar Üresil and İshak Özel, were reportedly receiving treatment at the Ersoy Hospital.
Another fireman, Hüseyin Çekiç, who returned to the Eyüp Fire Department after intervening in the fire in Eyüp, died of an electric shock while carrying out maintenance on the department's fire trucks. A statement issued by the İstanbul metropolitan municipality said the municipality will consult expert witnesses to determine the exact cause of death.
