Turnout Gear Problems
ok i know i posted a similar one in relation to the condition of female firefighters turnout gear but this one is more geared to juniors in general.
is your gear not your size or already worn out?
does this interfere with your trainings?

if your a girl; your gear will never fit right. niether will your uniforms or even ff t shirts. ff ing is a mans job, us girls are simply non tradional (and pretty damn good at it if i say so) but its just something you have to deal with, climbing ladders with extra long pants and having to hike em up before you go threw the window totally sucks
i used to feel like a penguin in my old gear, then everyone got new gear specially made for them... now i cant breathe in them. but being a girl, you just gotta live with it. Or, "be a man" lol
oh and p.s.
me and my friend are trying to get pink gear :)

Turnouts, whether for training or duty need to fit,PERIOD. Train like you play and play like you train, this applies to gear as well as tactics, your movements should not be restricted by gear that is too small or gear that you are swimming in because it is over-sized. As far as worn out gear, it definitely needs to be relegated to the training only pile, remember, the new NFPA standard states that if it's 10 years old or older it needs to be replaced,this goes for helmets,gloves,boots, bunkers,turnouts,nomex hoods, everything.

When guys get new gear, the first thing they want is a training burn. New gear makes you look like such a rookie!!

This sounds like a safety concern, all our gear is fitted to the specific FF, and after 10 years it is replaced.

yeah it dose, just got a new set of Globe G- Xtreme, ran my first call in it last night. man did i hear it from some of the guys on our mutual aid dept.

Now this reply is for turnout gear in general . I know that some department's just go by what size of coat and paint's they wear in general . But don't get me wrong you can do that and still have gear that somewhat fit's. In the department I was with everyone got measured for coat and pants by the supplyer you were getting your gear from.Not saying everyone does it this way but that's the way are dept. did it.If your gear is fit properly you should be able to move ok.But remember it's different working with gear on and working with no gear it's like the difference between night and day ! This is just my opinion and i'll tell you now I don't know everything ! Just trying to give you an answer is all !

I agree with this your gear should fit you properly.I understand that you have to work with what you have sometimes,but proper fit gear sure help's.My dept.uses Globe and its awsome.When we get gear are company we buy from send's someone to measure you for your gear.

Good fitting gear will make a huge difference both in training and overall use. We use Morning Pride and I love it. When I got hired they measured us for it and it fits awesome. I have used it training and in Fires and it really works great. However I ahve been on the other side when I was a call Firefighter my bunkerpants were not long enough and my coat was too small.

During my probation period, I was given an old set of gear to train in. The turnouts were in decent shape but the boots had seen MANY better days. I complained to the Chief several times and was always told that they were okay for training. Until the day we were practicing search and rescue and when I got to the door after my sweep, I stood up, I dragged the toe of my boot across the floor and the steel toe flew out and across the porch. The chief looked at my boot, then at the steel toe laying 10 feet away and said,"I'll get those new boots ordered..."

it is terrible!!! in about 5'5" size7 and my feet are size 6 .....my bunkers where mens 38, my coat was xl, and my boots where mens 11 1/2. i couldn't do ANYTHING! i couldn't walk at all with the boots the coat was jigantic! and was in the way and pants keept falling down even with suspenders. one of the instructers of a class i was taking at the time talked to the chief and told him that he HAD to issue me better gear because it was dangerous. now my bunkers are too short but still kinda big aruond the waist- i can't step up into the trucks i have to pull myself up- my coatis too long but the sleeves are too short- i did finally get boots that were fitted and sized for me though.
