The first call I answered in NY was a false alarm. My first call here in SC, I will never forget.
It was a structure fire where we lost a mother, and three children. It was a very difficult time
for the entire fire department. This is not the way anyone should have to answer their first alarm, but it happens. I can only prey that I don't have to come accross another alarm such as that.

My first call?.... I believe was an overturned Brontosaurus. That is really too far back for me to remember, but I believe it was a two vehicle collision.

Hey Oldman, Thanks for responding to the discussion. Sounds as if you have been around since the Dinosaur.
I guess you have seen much in your years with the dept.
Thanks again, be well, and stay safe out there Brother.
My first call was an explosion at a natural gas substation. Talk about being scared, it sounded like a freight train. The heat was so intense that it melted the reflective strips off of our helmets. I will never forget my first call.
Hey Melissa, Thank you for responding to the discussion.
I can relate to your first call. I have also been involved with a
substation fire as well. Leveled the entire complex, thank God
no one was killed, however we did have some injuries. I can understand
how you won't forget that call. Thanks again, and stay safe out there.
My first call was a tractor and trailer on fire. I was so nervous that I forgot to call en-route and the dispatch center sent another fire station thinking no one responded to the call. The department was small and being a new volunteer I was the only one responding I was not even sure what truck I should take so I took the smallest one witch was a older willies jeep brush truck WOW I was glad it turned out to be only a small brake fire If it would have been a working vehicle fire I would have had a hard time putting the fire out. Oh well first calls are always fun
Now I can't even remember how many calls I been on
My first call was a structure fire. I remember my heart pounding with the rush of excitement as I donned my gear and everyone loaded up in the rig. The first crew on scene reported heavy fire showing on C,D side with entrapment. We were the second crew on scene and right away we rushed to get the person out but the gentleman inside turned out to be a little heavier then we thought, about 450 pounds heavy. We did everything we could to get him out as the building was burning around us, some of the guys gave up their jackets and covered the man while we started making an interior attack but knew we weren't going to be able to do it on our own and ended up calling out a box alarm for mutual aid. In the end we were able to save the gentleman inside and a portion of the structure. It was a call I will always remember!
Hey Dave, Thanks for responding to the discussion.
I have no clue what you are saying, but maybe that has
something to do with your spelling LOL
Be safe out their Brother.
Hey Swen, Thanks for responding to the discussion.
I'm glad to hear that you were able to handle that call
on your own. That dosen't happen often.
Thanks again, and stay safe Brother.
Hey Todd, thanks for responding to the discussion.
That is a great story, even better when you were able to save a life.
Thanks again, for sharing that with us. Stay safe Brother, job well done.
My first call was a grass fire.... wasn't very big but i can still remember how hot it was!!!
My first brush fire was not much to think about, standard little fire in the woods, but that was with the department of forestrey, but my first with the fire department, was one that I will always remember. Pres. Brush was makeing a campaign stop about an hour away and some kids form the highschool were heading to see him and cross the center line and hit a school bus head-on. (right bside to right side) one was killed instantly and three others we flew to local hospitals were anotherone die. I was at the LZ for that one. Our neiboring co. it was there call, I got to see the bus and car afterwards. I'll always remember it. One of the few times we had two birds on the ground at the same time what a sight.
Hey Darrell, Thank you for responding to the discussion.
It seems no matter how small, or how large, we always seem
to remember our first call. Stay safe Brother.
