FirefighterNation.com has learned that a Canton, Ohio fire captain has died while participating in a charity event.

Captain James M. Hall was playing with fellow firefighters in a charity basketball game against police officers on May 30, 2009 when he suddenly collapsed. CPR was immediately started, however he was unable to be revived. Captain Hall was a member of the Canton Fire Department for over twenty years.

In 2003 Hall was recognized by the department as Firefighter of the Year for actions he and another firefighter performed to rescue a young boy from a house fire.

An investigation into why Hall collapsed is pending. No official cause has been stated.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and the Canton Fire Department...
I feel such saddness ! If it isn't enough that we risk our lives in doing our job as firefighters, we always are the one's to do the charity thing beyond our call of duty, and to lose your life in helping others in such an event, how tragic. They often call us hero's and for most of us we always say " I'm not a hero, it's my job" but for this reasoning, the man died a hero. God bless to his family! another angel watches over us. Amen.
Our prayers go out to the family and we salute you Capt!!!!!!
God Bless
