If anyone can come up with ideas on training for the condition of extreme temps -50's to 120's Me and my crew would love to try any cold weather ideas ( We are in antarctica by the way ) and provide feed back and vice versa. No input is bad input when it comes to trainings and when you are in a position like us with ff from all over the states and new zealand everyones ideas are tried.

Edit 4/29/09: Some thing i probably should had mentioned is due to the Antarctic Treaty we are very limited on what we can do.. (i.e. NO Burning, Ventilation, Vehicle Extracation)...

Don't really have any new ideas, but just drilling with the equipment when it is starting to freeze up is good to practice. Not that we get a chance that often either, usually enough calls that the real thing does the trick.

Good question though, look forward to seeing other replies.
umm we froze up a ice rink once the rink was used for the local kids but it was time working with the pumper and such in the cold conditions i would like to make an ice rink and put a practice car out on it to cut up with the jaws because you know that when you need footing its never there plus it may make cribbing a bit more difficult and being in the Michigan's upper peninsula we have a few roads on lakes in the winter im waiting to have a roll over on a lake or even after an ice storm i cary a fair ammout of salt in my personal but we only have alot of oil dry on the riggs
Multiple things as to why we can NEVER train with that idea... 1) we do not have the ability to get vehicles to practice with down here. 2) we have more than enough ice that footing doesnt become an issue since we are on it all the time beings as how both of our runways are on ice. 3) We are not aloud to use any kind of salt. Its a MAJOR violation of the Antarctic Treaty
can you guys use sand? im just thinking of safety well on scene
what about scrap from an old broken down plane or a old metal shed even a 4 wheeler thats going out of comission just time with those tools im guessing they wont let you light that stuff on fire to practice that?
We can only burn in a burn pan to teach the town how to use a fire extingusher... And we use volcanic ash.... (Dirt)
