Hola,
Just wanted to get some honest feed back about how men feel about having women serve as FF. Please be very honest! The reason for this is:
1. I have witnessed society feels women can't do this job- we are to fragile , etc.
2. People think women that work around a bunch of men must be easy or having relations with at least one of the them
3. Sexual harrassment issues arise more often
4. Some men have trouble taking orders from a woman (or vice versa)
These are just a few of the things I have seen or heard about.. Please share y you feel this way
If that's not the pot calling the Kettle black. You can't even spell "dumb". You are one of the lucky ones who has so far "survived" the job. You obviously don't have the common sense it takes to do the job. I never even mentioned the volunteer v.s. career thing. I think volunteers are great and make up most of departments in the country. It's idiots like you with their head in the sand and are more interested in making their POV look like a mini-pumper so they can pick up chicks that piss me off.
hay jack a*& i dont put anything on my pov never have and never will.i and i never know you had to be an Amazing speller to do this job you are a jackhole.
does it really matter who i talk to. does who i talk to make me a better firefighter. man you sure do have thing all Screwed up. a parentally you have issues and arguing has done nothing but wast a lot of my time so try Slinging your BULLSH&T to someone who will listen."LATER A$%HLOE"
I was just stating facts... you seemed to take it personal and start the name calling. You just keep telling the girls that you do exactly what they do in Back Draft and Ladder 49 and maybe they will believe it and you will score some A$$. Obviously you are one of the guys that the real firemen are talking about when they say that "some guys just aren't cut out for the job". Just don't get someone else killed along with your dumba$$!!
Great.
After 24 pages of this stuff, the discussion finally degenerates into name calling.
GTF up.
Everyone has their reasons for being here.

Out of the six, five are great? lol...When I first started many many years ago /c the firedept,I would say only half of the men were great, other half, slackers or plain out didn't care. Over the years, I did see improvement, but still, not to hot. (BTW, I cant compare with the women as there were none). Before I got my Lieutenant position ( was instructor at that time), I made it clear things were going to change, as there lives were at stake, regardless what the state "required", as the state made it way to easy. EVERYDAY when they came in, aside of checking all our trucks, equipment etc...I had them work out to start. Then, we had a drill of some sort, to practice, kept them up to speed so to speak. However, I did make it fun, with laughter, jokes etc, then our serious points etc. I had these guys so pumped up, they couldn't wait to get a call.Needless to say, aside of the guys being ready more then ever, they ALL are great, confidant, prepared, mentally and physically in shape and they actually look forward to their next shift, not ever knowing what will come next, the element of surprise in training, lol. I have given my opinion before of what I felt about ladies in FF,so I wont rehash that. But my point to this is...no matter your sex, ALL Firefighters must be prepared, well trained and Fit for whatever may come your way at any given point. If we have a slacker, or one not so "great", there's apparently an area that person needs to work on. Have them work on it until they can achieve whats expected of them.Which can and should be done at the station ( or controlled fire) instead of chilling out in front of the television on their down time. This can be done without intimidation or having them feel less then anyone else in their field, male or female.
BTW, whats the deal with the Navy Seals? hahaha.( a comment from CED I read)This is FFN isn't it, and the questions were about women in FF, or am I in the military web page and dunno it?lol
i have absolutly no problem backing a woman up in a fire or vice versaaa as long as she or he can get the job done , it shouldn't matter your gender.
now the one problem i do have and i dont wanna start no bad feelings but woman tend to gassip a lil more than men do and it does start inter agency dramaaaaa. we have about 6 woman in our dept and 2 of them are such trash talker that it messes up the whole family aspect of the dept. men just just know when your at the fire house you do wat u gotta do and keep drama to yourself

Well I dunno about that,lol....I work with nothing but men,and the drama, well, lets say, there is ALWAYS some drama going on. I cant go against what you said completely though, as I truly dont know as there are no women for me to compare to at the Firehouse( only 2 at the EMS station), but of all the stations I work at, I assure you, men are NOT all that quiet, nor can I say they don't start any drama.
Heres an example, and were not even at the fire house,,,, read above starting on page 20 I believe, with CED,theres drama already, read on to page 21,22,23,lol...uh huh,, drama sweetie, lol. Point given, lol.
I'ld say, drama/gossip starts any where, regardless of your sex, but yes, women tend to gossip more...but at a firehouse or ems or rescue station,, i dunno, since there are more men in the fields,I would have to say men are as equally quilty in the gossip/drama work force. Then again, I am at the stations and firehouse more then I am at home, so naturally I would tend to hear alot more I guess. Maybe its just those two at your station? BTW...No bad feelings here with your comment...
