With the rise in arson fires , there is discussion in registering arsonist. What are your thoughts. Do you have a known arsonist in your area. What about the new firefighters that you hire. How many of you have had one on your department ? How did you catch them? We had 3 " Kids " that were caught from our department and a surrounding department a few years ago. Kind of embarrassing. What about the penalties ? Should they be stiffer . I say " Throw the book at them . Chime in and say your peace . And most importantly , Be safe .

easier to hang them....that way you don't have to look for them if another fire starts........LOL Paul
While i agree with this in concept you just might be opening up a whole new concept of trying to keeping track of criminals. Where would it go next , shoplifters, bad check writers, and so on. Most of the time people don't know a sex offender lives near them unless they check the police departments database or the news say they are looking for them because of failure to register. In my state any firefighter applying for a position, volunteer or paid, must clear a criminal background check by the state law enforcement division. They must also have their driving record checked by the highway department. Then it is up to the department to put them on or not. Once again having arsonist register is a good idea, but once you start down that slippery slope there is no going back.
I think they should, It raises public awareness
Not only register but make them submit DNA, fingerprints, and both testicles. LOL
Great idea! I think they should start doing that!
Better yet nail there testies to the floor of a controled burn house and let them light that one on fire LOL. Sorry I think arsonist are the lowest scum on earth next to child molesters.
I'M WITH CHAD
it would be great. just like you said, sometimes it is difficult in finding out everything in a background check depending on where it happened. i think we have all had those that somehow make it through the cracks that set as many as they put out.
I guess everyone agrees that we need a way to track these people . I think we need to write our legislators to push this thru as a tough law . Be safe.
WOW, AND I STILL SAY, YES, YES, YES
I would agree that they need to be registered as arsonist, no if and or buts about it. If they move into a new area, that fire dept needs to know that they have a potential for more fires.
RIGHT ON ALAN
