WASHINGTON -- D.C.'s fire chief is asking for $41 million in federal stimulus money to renovate seven firehouses and replace 14 roofs.
Chief Dennis Rubin told a D.C. Council committee Wednesday that the renovations would include environmentally friendly construction such as "green roofs."
Rubin is also asking for $8 million of the stimulus money for paramedic training for 50 employees.
Rubin says he submitted the request to the mayor, who is preparing requests to turn in to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
There is money in the stimulus for fire station and police station construction (details have not yet been significantly released for who/how that will be managed), however local jurisdictions ALSO have additional money they can use for various projects (unrelated to FEMA)...so...this could be from either most likely.
The way I read it , there was to be 351 M with a cap of 1.5 M on each grant. But nobody is saying who going to dool it out. I'm like I all of you , I've got a station built in the 60s that need to be updated, I'm still waiting for info on the grant or who has it. I'll post this info when I know anything. Please if anyone knows anything post it....
