I JUST RECIEVED A USED (2003) N5A SIZE MED. FROM E-BAY. THE HELMET FEELS GOOD AND COMFORTABLE BUT IT SITS EXTREMELY HIGH ON MY MELON, I LOOK RIDICULOUS, LIKE A BOBBLE HEAD DOLL. MY HAT SIZE IS 7 1/8TH. THIS IS MY FIRST LEATHER, I'VE TRIED ON AN OLDER N5A (MID 80'S) AND A NEWER N6A AND I DON'T REMEMBER EITHER SITTING ON MY HEAD LIKE THAT. ARE THERE ANY ADJUSTMENTS OR IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY HELMET. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREAT.
The "tampon" may not "look" so bad, But I dont know anyone who HASNT removed it and felt it better, and 97% of the guys I know prefer NOT to use the ratchet both raise the helmet Up... far as the earflaps they do bunchup some but should tuck inside themselfs if the ratchet is removed , with a nomex hood you are fairlywell protected
dont forget everyone's head is differant so try this in steps before removing anything perminantly
Last year I sent my 1985 new yorker back to Cairns/MSA to be repainted, and to replace the lining system which picked up some mold in it during my 9 months off due to a shoulder injury that required surgery. I was a test of my patience as it took seven months for it to get done and returned to me. MSA was in the middle of relocating the factory. They were embarrassed at the time it took and all the missed stated delivery times that came and went, but in the end they made it as right as they could. No charge on the bill is a good thing. But now the helmet seems a lot heavier that it did, so much so that it is top heavy and wants to pull my head backwards. They put in the new impact cap along with the new liner and I almost want to stop wearing my helmet and wear a department issued 1010. I am tied of having to go to the Chiropractors office after a response.
I called Cairns /MSA and they said I could send it back but I would have to pay for another Liner and impact cap. Any ideas why my N5a (5lbs) now weighs more than my son's N6A . It also weighs more than other N5a s in the department. I did cut the foam disk out of the top which did seam to make the helmet ride a little lower and feel a bit more comfortable.
