What tools do you use the most on a fire scene?

I am sure that this has been discussed before on here. But I am curious what tools you and your dept. use the most and find the most valuable to have on scene.

I carry the flashlight since we run most calls at night, but I think i've only used it once. I'd rather look cool with my helmet light which always has dead batteries B)

Hi Brother, I mask up and I use the irons and my hand tools and rope for search and rescue while in a working fire and if I am outside of the structure I tell my men to ladder the structure on each side so the ladder company that is coming in to vent the roof has a way off the roof in case that roof gets spongy the men can get off without getting hurt . I try to be a jack of all trades while on the fire ground because if one of my firefighters would get hurt I would blame myself so I do my best for their safety and the fine job that they do ,its all a team effort. A set of irons, roll up doors are good but keep them clean.

personally i use a pike pole or a set of irons when i jump off the truck

I have to say that while I am not a officer or the likes thereof I am not a rookie newbie either. I have experience in the field and am going for my Emt-B very soon. Also my chief is always looking for input when it comes to our new trucks. His theory is that we as the firefighters are going to be working off our trucks the most so we need to like the way they are set up. As well as like the tools on hand. As for scene safety we are well equip is this area, as we do us LZ lights and air lift periodically. We are a paid on call dept. that has about 12 people that we can count on at any one time. we always roll the main engine followed by the tanker. Usually the Ambulance rolls just ahead of the main engine but we have internal ems so we have strictly ems staff as well. I will certainly look into these new jaws and the power hawk tools. I will also bring it up to the chief and he will do research on his own and try to get Alpena fire supply to get us so tool time with these new tools and see how we like them. Thanks for the input.

www.jawsoflife.com will give some info and shows the tools even some acssessories and some contact info. I have never used any shears on scene but I got to use some generic type on some ag training so that might be something to check out as well and if you get a new set of tools you might look into the extension sets for the rams. If they come to show off a bit of everything let me know how it goes I will probly try to check them out at FDIC this year its in about a month also theres a thought for you FDIC is good place to check out things. I dont know when its in your area but if it comes around before you make a move on the the truck it might be worth while. Get all the latest on gear and equipment and apparatus.
