FFN - A Cape Vincent, New York man who lived and breathed emergency services was tragically shot and killed by a man he was trying to help Friday night.

Mark Davis, 25, a two-year member of the Cape Vincent Fire Department, was reportedly gunned down by Christopher Burke. Davis and other crew members were attending to Burke when the victim left the room, returning with a rifle, according to news reports.

The crew tried leaving the situation, but two shots rang out, with at least one striking Davis.

"EMTs at the scene fervently attempted life saving measures, and continued these efforts during the ambulance transport to the Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, NY where he was pronounced deceased," a New York State Police report said. (WWTI Photo Slideshow - News 10 Video)

"Burke became agitated and retrieved a high powered rifle from the bedroom of the residence, police said. As the EMT’s were retreating from the residence, it is alleged that Burke fired two rounds, one at the victim striking and killing him, they said.," state police said. "The suspect then ran from the residence and was tackled and held down by another EMT who was also at the residence."

Davis was a member or employee of several emergency organizations in the area, WWTI reported in a profile of the victim. He was enrolled in a paramedic program at a local college and worked ful time at an ambulance company in Watertown, New York.

The Thousand Islands Emergency Rescue Service, where Davis was a volunteer since 2007, posted a tribute to him online Saturday.

"He was one of those guys that EMS was what he lived for," Cape Vincent First Assistant Chief William E. Gould II told the Watertown Times,

Burke was arrested and charged with second degree murder, WYSR reports. He was arraigned Saturday morning.

WWTI reported that police were not yet revealing what type of emergency EMS crews were on the scene for.

Cape Vincent is about 90 miles north of Syracuse, near the Canadian border.

Sackets Harbor will be bringing Engine one on Saturday. to Greg McLean, How are you handling this I know you knew Mark very well my prayers are going out for you also.
You know, not everyone can train for EVERY situation. As Volunteer, you are taught to respond to Psych Emergencies, in both a secure, and unsecure enviroment. There is no training , that I know of, that will prepare you for a drug crazed psychopath. I have been on numerous medical calls, that involved Police involvement, and each and every one is different. When you respond to a "good faith" medical call, that's just what it is. You respond to the scene, and prepare for the symptoms, with information that was given to you by Dispatch. "lmaz", I don't know where you live, but, maybe you should KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT, before you pass judgment, on the training other agencies provide their Members.

Mark, you did what you were trained to do,and everyone is grateful!!!

"lmaz"......Wake Up, and Grow Up!

Mark, May you be Peace

RIP
You and you family will be in my prayers.
Rest In Peace
Thank you, everyone has been tremendous! I have shown Mark's mother all of the input on this website and she was very surprised to see what an impact her son has made on the entire nation. We typed Mark Davis, Cape Vincent EMT in google.com and came up with an abundance of different websites making tribute to Mark. We appreciate everything!

Also, to anyone with the FDNY and BOSTON Fire depts and all those who had something to do with bringing FDNY and BOSTON pipes to lead the funeral that we are all filled with tears of joy when we heard that news. Mark wanted to send a message and leave this world big. This is the way he wanted it to be. I took Mark to NYC for the first time just this past summer. We were working. Bringing a nursing home pt to a new nursing facility near NYC and we deviated a tad bit and went to NYC. No matter if I was supposed to go there or not, I'm glad I did. Because I go to NYC a lot and that was Mark's first time. He had the biggest smile, ear to ear. He was amazed with how big the buildings were and being from Orlando, FL. Mark said he has never seen anything like it.

I will be speaking at the services on Saturday.

Thank you for all those who plan on attending!!!
Edwards FD Will be attending also and along with us will be Star Lake FD and we both are bringing equipment. Edwards is bringing a brush truck with 4 and Star Lake is bringing an engine. We will be seeing everyone there. Stay safe and have a safe trip. R. I. P.
I don't know man. It seems like it.
I'm just messed up about the whole thing. Period.
