Im currently at Davis VFD and just about 10 miles down the road is Bryant VFD. I am thinking about joining them as well..the only thing is it would just be for Car Wrecks and Fires they do medical but im just a lil to far to be any help on medical...what do yall think. would i be helping or hurting this other dept?
Our SOP's actually state you can't be a member of 2 Fire Dept's but you can Vol. for a resque squad and our FD. And our Career guys can't volunteer with us but can with other departments
Why?
Will you be a detriment or an asset to either?
Are you helping your original department by not being available all the time now?
Are you going to watch your speed as you go from town to town chasing calls?
Are you hoping to become another statistic?

I am a member at 2 depts. but run at a 3rd one. Middletown, Myersville, and Sta. 31. Middletown I have a duty night on Tuesday from 1800-2200 , Myersville I help whenever I am in town, and 31 is an all paid fire dept. that I go to help out and learn from. Meetings are on different days for Middletown and Myersville, and we don't do much training and if we do it is last minute someone calls or texts me, if I'm not doing anything I will show up. I live 15 minutes outside of each department besides 31. Why join a dept. that I can't get to in time for calls? Middletown is known for the professionalism in Frederick County, and Myersville I learn more from because I get to do more. 31 is within 5 minutes from me, my minitor is programmed for their Amb. and eninge to if they get a call around me I usually try to get to it depending on what shift it is. My first company, Middletown, felt like I was abandoning them but they understood plus I never fit in there. I went in to the company with the Chief thinking I was there to, "start shit" because I was a girl firefighter, and told some of the guys this. I am totally opposite and set out to prove him wrong, and have done that. Still don't feel part of the "brotherhood" there though. Myersville I fit in and everyone treats everyone the same. Sta. 31 I got to to learn with the paid guys get to view real professionalism, which will prepare me for a full-time FF/EMT position in the long run and eventually Medic. They also have a Hazmat unit. I try to stay at Myersville overnight and help get the ambulance or engine out. We have 2 24-hour paid personnel in the station and usually if there is an Aide-1 to ride the ambulance then it frees up an engine driver. It is possible to be part of 2 companies just make sure the other company understands why you are joining the other company, and make sure your county rules allow you to join 2 companies. Our county rules are we can be a part of as many rural fires companies we want but when it comes to the city we can only be a part of one. Hoped I helped some! Stay safe out there!

I currently run as a volley and an in-house EMT part time with my Dept. and had considered running part time with a neigboring dept but did not do it due to worrying aboout keeping up training with both depts as well as scheduling conflicts.
You have enough time for 2 departments...?? How...?? Between work and the family and the Department I don't have enough time to spit......LOL But I love every minute of it......Paul...on the serious side....could you give them the time needed when they need you most...?? If 2 calls come in (not unusual) which department would you respond with...?? Paul
firechief911 i see your point did"t know you that far away no one needs to respond that far. unless he wants to respond non emergency and help with clean up and packing hose which we all need help with afterwards. seems like when the fires out no one is around to help.
i have the time...im not married. If 2 calls come in at the same time i go with ither my primary Davis....or if its a medical and Bryant has a fire i go with them....or if 2 fires go out...what ever one i am closet to
