My current department is a volunteer department with about 60 on the roster (12 part-time for just the medic). We run 4 stations and on a good day turn out about 15 for a house fire. We cover 72 square miles of unincorporated area with about 23 of it being farm land. We have 4 first out engines, a couple of tankers, and a couple back up engines, 1 rescue, and 2 medics (usually only 1 in service at a time due to manning). Rune volume is about 1300 per year +/- a few depending on the year.

The department I just left covers 1/3 of a township and the 1 sq. miles village it surrounds with 1 station and about 25 people. They run an engine/tanker, a tanker, a rescue, and a medic. Total run volume is low 300's per year.
