What do apparatus do you bring to a routine fire alarm? Do you charge a line? Do you wear S.C.B.A's? Do you have a minamum number that you can roll with?
What about to crashes? Do you charge a line? Do you bring a engine and a rescue?

for a fire we bring an engine and a chaser, we dont charge a line unless we see smoke or fire, we will do a walk around b4 we enter.. if there is a fire scba manditory
on a car crash we report with ambulance and heavy rescue (our tanker has a 300 gal tank and provides enough time for 2nd due)
On a routine fie alarm my department will role at least 2 engines and 2 rescue/service trucks. We do wear S.C.B.A's and we charge a line if we determine that there is a line. On wrecks we roll a Rescue truck because that is where all of our medical supplies and our extraction equipment is and all of our rescue trucks have at least 250 gallons of water so that we can charge a line. We also try to roll an engine company because we do have medical supplys on them as well and that is the truck that we would charge a line off of if there was entrapment.
For a residental fire alarm we roll one engine. For a business/commercial/high occupancy fire alarm we roll an engine and a truck company. And when we get there we get out with scba packs on but no mask until confirmed fire.
Fire Alarm = a 1+1 and a chief. 95% of our fire alarms are caused by either cooking, steam,or a burp in the water system. We do not pull a line. Most guys will wear a pack on a high rise apartment; residential alarms some will. We have 2 men on each engine and aerial plus the chief. So 5 of us to handle the assignment.
MVA's will roll an engine, rescue, a MICU, and a chief. We will not pull a line unless the car is on
fire.
In my FD we get a 1 and 1 response for all fire alarms. Thats 1 engine and 1 truck. The Engine will position itself for water supply and the truck will take side A we will then deploy as a team for the investigation.
All firefighters will be in SCBA and FULL PPE....For a Single Family Dwelling The Engine COmpany Firefighter and officer (we only carry 3 officer driver and firefighter) Will carry a TIC, water can, and irons. The Truck will carry 2 6 foot NY Roof Hooks and one will carry a halligan, and one will carry a flat head axe they also bring there TIC.
For a Multi Family dwelling the Engine Stays the same the truck will add a Search rope and a hydra ram
For Commercial occupancies the Engine will take our high rise pack and high rise bag. The Truck will stay the same as the multi family dwelling.
For MVA we send and engine and ambulance only....if it is confirmed entrapment or we find entrapment on arrival then a truck or squad company is then dispatched. If there is confirmed entrapment then yes we pull an 1 3/4 handline and charge it.
We go by the old adage of "prepare for the worst and you will never be surprised"
Normal response to a fire alarm we roll our first 2 engines (this mainly cause the truck is at a sub station)..we try to roll with min. of 2 in back driver and oic or senior man in oic seat..max 4 man crew oic and driver..we scott on every call no exceptions and auto 30 days can be given if you don't..line is not charged unless we have report of something showing ..but we bring a water can to invest....second due gets the hydrant and so on from there..
We typically roll an Engine and 2 tankers on an alarm call. If a confirmed fire 2 engines, and 2 tankers. One engine goes to the scene and the second goes to the closest draft site. No airpacks unless confirmed fire.
MVA we typically roll our rescue and an engine. We pull a line if working an extrication but that's usually it on MVAs.
No minimum number of personel to roll with since some of our guys go POV to the scene.
We respond to a possible fire with an engine and an attack team...and a tanker (2400 gallons)and the command vehicle...Attack team wears an airpack but doesn't go "on air" unless needed (an actual fire)..We don't charge a line unless there is fire or smoke showing......Car crash....we respond in the seconday engine with a full crew and the tanker and command/rescue truck...2 people have air packs on and are standing by with a charged line...Paul
Alarm: We run the Pumper and Tanker(Tender). Crashes: We run rescue, pumper and sometimes tanker(tender) depending on how many firefighters respond.(Volunteer dept) On both calls we keep a person on the truck to run the pump but we do not charge a line until needed.

we respond to a fire with one engine and tanker and automatic mutual aid engine , and all personel from our dept. is masked up all but the face piece. we do not lay a line untill we make our 360 deg. walk around and talk to the owner if available. for mva's we respond a engine , rescue and our qrs unit, we do lay a line most of the time but we do not charge it unless it requires it. all personell responds when the pager is tripped.
Typically with alarms We roll the Pumper, Equipment/Rescue Truck, Tanker 1,Brush Truck, then finally tanker 2. Full Turnout minus the facepiece. Usually by the time someones gets tanker 2 out and warmed up the First out trucks r on scene and there either canceled or told to keep rolling. Also depending on what/were the alarm is ( we have a 4 year bible college with annual enrollment of about 1200 in our coverage area and a 55 room all suite hotel in the middle of knowere, were strickly rural with no hydrants) we'll also start at least 1 tanker from a Neighboring department. For MVA's it the Pumper, rescue truck, Brush Truck and tanker if needed in that order. If there is entrapment a line is always pulled and charged no exceptions.
