Backdraft has always been my favorite movie. Come on, who can forget when that movie first came out, All the "wackers" coming to movie theatre with there pagers one, knowing that they are out of their district, dragged the love ones to see it and they didn't want to. And who can not forget the famous line of the movie, "You go, We go!"
I think Ladder 49 it is more realistic, going into a fire without a mask in Backdraft, I think if they put the effort in Backdraft to make it more realistic it would be an incredible movie but for now Ladder 49 has my vote.
I would have to say Ladder 49. The sacrifice that he decided to make is one that i would hope that no one would ever have to make. But it is one that i would hope that me or any one of my fellow firefighters would have the courage to do in that situation.
I liked both of them also but Ladder 49 was showing more of our jobs. Backdraft showed us the arsonist and ladder 49 showed us what might be going on in a trapped FF mind! And Towering Inferno was the best!!
My vote is for Ladder 49. It was more realistic. I remember Backdraft coming out and thought it was the best until Ladder 49. The quotes from Backdraft will always be the best. But the effert By ladder 49 was more realistic.
Actually the best line from Backdraft was the line "The funny thing about firefighters is that day or night they are always firefighters." I think that both movies had their place in the Cinematic date line. Which means that the technology that allowed for better realism in Ladder 49 was probably not available to Ron Howard in the 1980's.
Backdraft for my two cents was a little corny in it's story line, but till it was made I can't think of another Firefighting movie other than Firehouse which stared Richard Roundtree and dealt with the racial tensions of the career fire service in the early 70's.
Ladder 49 came after Worcester(6), Keokuk (3), and 9-11(343). After those terrible events Hollywood was not going to get a free pass from the fire service on how they portrayed us.
So I guess if pressed I've got to give them a half point each.
