The township that my volunteer fire co is in wants to create an Emergency Services Advisory Committee. Does anyone work with an advisory committee? I'm looking for pros and cons. We're a very small township (more animals than people.) Lots of farm land. The township does not pay the operating costs of the fire company, but they do donate some funds. Our ambulance is part of the fire company. The other "emergency services" in the township...1 police chief (no officers under him.) What are your thoughts on an "advisory committee?" We already have monthly general meetings at the fire house and have no problem communicating between fire and ambulance and with the police chief....
I work with a volunteer fire department. I was asked by the chief to head up a support group for the firefighters and this has helped alot to bring the ff and community together. The STAR Team, which stands for Support Firefighter and Rehab, helps setup/take down fire/accident incidents and provide rehab. We have worked with the community and let them know that we are there (fire dept and STAR). We do yard sales and education. We have encouraged participation within the dept. Of course with the fire in Waycross Georgia it helped open eyes in our community and those around us. We were faced with that and a large fire in Nahunta during the same time along with small community fires. Since the STAR Team was formed it has brought brothership, loyalty and solidarity to our department. We are there for each other. We are encouraging the rest of Brantley County to become a part of this group and we are there to help them build their own STAR Team.
