I have been tasked by the IAFF Local F25 President Jim Gibaud to research the "Workgroup" schedule. I have gotten some information on it and slightly remember how it worked from some of the guys at NWSY in Yorktown that I have known for years. I am just looking for any input anyone can give, opinions from experiance and if anyone has a copy of that type of schedule that would be great. The two schedules that will be in the running along side of the work group schedule are the 24 on 24 off with a 3 day every two weeks and a 5 day every quarter, and the 48 on 72 off for 3 cycles 48 on 48 off for 1 cycle. Again any opinions or experiance will be greatly appreciated. If you can and feel comfortable please include your name, rank, and email address in the reply.

Rock Island Arsenal Local F-292 Rock Island IL, is going to the 48/72 schedule starting Jan. 2009. This process has only taken about 4-6 months. Will be a 1 year trial with option to revert back to our 24/24 schedule or stay with it.
Does anyone that currently use this schedule get yearly schedule cards made? if so, where?
I currently work at a department that does 24 on, 24 off with a 3 day every two weeks. I don't really like the schedule but I don't really have a choice because it is an Air Force Fire Department and I am active duty. I think that we should be on a 24 on 48 off schedule because of that fact that we don't get any holidays off, while the rest of the base takes the holiday plus one or two more days before and/or after that holiday. I don't like the idea of a 48 on 72 off because I think I would get tired of some of the guys at my station who do nothing but complain.
I am on the job at Parris Island and we are attempting to switch to the 48/72 schedule now. It has been before the union and approved and is in negation as of now. If you send me a PM I will put you in touch with our union reps to discuss it all. They have a killer PowerPoint on it that goes into detail on manpower, training, leave everything a manager will need to know in order to make it happen.
Have worked 48/72, 48/72, 48/48 since 2006. I'd NEVER go back to a department working 24/24. I've been at two departments during the transition to the "alternative" schedule.....yes, there was some dissent during the discussion phase. But a year into the new schedule that dissent had virtually disappeared.
