Season's Greeting's
That special time of year is here again. What does your company do to show their holiday spirit to the community? My company takes Santa through town on our engine and drops him off at the community park for cookies and caroling. He of course arrives with lights and siren.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL! BE SAFE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!

we've got a big parade and we hand out candy, t-shirts, coloring books and a lot more stuff, it's a lot of fun:)
We have a light parade through town and this year we hauled Santa in the bucket of the ladder truck. It took us a couple of hours to string up all of the lights all around the truck.
Tonight is the night for Santa's big ride! Hopfully the weather here in PA is not to bad that we have to cancel. I know of a few kids that would be disappointed. I'm sure there would be a few adults also.
We are having a pancake breakfast this Saturday morning with Santa, at our Training room
Christmas play for the community by the community kids, and Santa then a pot dinner for the town.. Bring and pass.... Lots of fun.. Dinner taken to the elderly, along with fruit dish..Caroling after on a wagon.. Then welll Lots of drinking for clean upppp lol
I've seen departments going through their communities with "Santa" and others sitting on top of apparatus, or in the buckets of towers. Is this really a safe practice? Does your state laws allow riding outside of the apparatus while in motion? Maybe theirs a reason fire apparatus have those little signs saying not to ride on the outside of the vehicle.
This was cancelled due to weather so no santa tonight
Well in the past, we have had Breakfast With Santa. This year we tried a bit of a different approach. We did "Story Time with Santa." So instead of pancakes and bacon, it was cookies and hot chocolate.
Last sunday, we hooked a flat trailer up to our utility and put Santa's sleigh on it with reindeer and holiday lights all over it and drove Santa into the middle of town. (With lights and sirens of course) At that point, he and Mrs. Claus got off the trailer and walked up to a stage where the children lined up and told Santa what they wanted for Christmas. The chamber of commerce pitched in snacks and hot cocoa. It was a nice event.
Lastly, this sunday we are driving 3 different Santas around on 3 different apparatus to go past every house in town. The kids can come out and see Santa and get candy canes. (The real trick is making sure that no two Santas are in the same place at the same time.)
In my department, we have Santa standing at the pump panel with a firefighter on either side. These firefighters must have Gemtor harnesses clipped onto the apparatus. Is it perfectly safe? no. But it is a little safer than having St. Nick standing on top of the engine.
